Winning Tools for Winning Quilts

Is Road to California on your mind right now?

Registration for classes is just around the corner. Some quilters are also using the dog days of summer to work on their entries for Road 2016 judging.

We recently heard from one of our vendors, Guidelines4Quilting, how two winning quilts credited Guidelines4Quilting tools for helping them create their entries.

Amazing Red Rock by Bonnie Beatty

Bonnie Beatty is fairly new to quilting so she was thrilled to have her quilt accepted for judging at Road 2015. The pattern Bonnie based her quilt on, “Labyrinth Walk” designed by Chris Florence and Emily Sirkin and featured in the April/May 2012 edition of Quilt Magazine, was meant for intermediate quilters, but that didn’t stop Bonnie. “This quilt truly stretched my quilting abilities and improved my confidence greatly,” remarked Bonnie.

Bonnie used several Guidelines4Quilting tools to complete her project. To cut out the strips, she used their Guideline RulersShe then used their Prep-Tool to prepare the triangles. She appreciated the accuracy the Prep-Tool provided in sewing the triangles together. “Triangles have always been a bit of a challenge for me, so having tools that make it easier and actually work was great.”

She also used Guidelines4Quilting Grip Strips on almost all of her rulers.

Stars for Mom by Sharon Vervoort

This 2010, Third Place: winning quilt for Traditional, Large, Pieced, was Sharon’s first quilt ever entered in a contest. Sharon made this gold start quilt “to honor my mother on her 80th birthday and was inspired by Sharyn Squier Craig’s LeMoyne Stars. My mother deserves every gold star on this quilt and more!”

Sharon shared that one of her secrets to creating this winning quilt was using Guidelines4Quilting’s Prep-Tool to mark the seam intersections for the precise Set-In-Seams on the Lemoyne Stars.

Do you have a favorite tool you’ve bought at Road to California that makes a difference with your quilting projects? We’d love to hear about it!!
