Description: Thread-painting gives you the freedom to make a very realistic image entirely with thread! Learn to analyze a photograph’s line and color, do straight-stitch and zig-zag free-motion thread-painting, plus how to mix and shade colors, while making Bluebird. These skills in hand, we then thread-paint an autumn leaf (provided by the instructor). You’ll be amazed what you can do!

Machines Provided by: Viking & OC Sewing & Vacuum

Kit Contents: includes pattern plus prepared ‘sandwiches’ so students can start work immediately, and supplementary use of my thread!

Description: Have you ever said, "My machine doesn't like that thread" or "I can only quilt with XYZ"? Then this is the workshop for you to learn about different weights of thread for quilting. Education is key, and Sarah will explain the uses and finished effects of different thread weights, as well as cotton, metallic, water-soluble, and monofilament fibers, in this hands-on workshop. Sarah also covers thread basics, including information on weight and ply, spool positioning, needle recommendations, and tension settings. She will offer helpful tips and tricks, then share projects and photos aimed to inspire and expand your use of threads. During the class, you will be quilting with a range of thread weights and varying quilting motifs. The skills taught in this workshop are transferable to your home domestic sewing machine.

Description: Learn how to quilt modern, geometric spirals and swirls using both walking foot and free-motion techniques. Students will learn how to quilt stunning designs such as large continuous spirals, geometric spirals, and several swirl variations. Spirals can be quilted in different areas of your quilts, or used as an allover design. Combine motifs for even more possibilities! Students should be comfortable with basic machine quilting techniques. Bring plain fabrics to practice with, or leftover orphan blocks.

Create these simple collages using Jane’s collage technique that uses no fusible or pattern pieces. Be creative and have fun. Description: In class we will cover six different ways to appliqué, either by machine or by hand. Needle Turn, Faced edges using interfacing, Raw Edge, Bias Strips, Wool and Pieced Appliqué Shapes. Each technique offers unique instruction for sewing a variety of shapes to Background fabrics.

Description: Come together and create a modern take on the Celtic Twist block design. The Villager quilt is inspired by the importance of coming together to lend a helping hand, and of being able to lean on one another. The design reflects how “villagers” link arms and surround their community members in times of need. It is a call to remember our shared humanity and responsibility to care for our fellow villagers, in ways both big and small. Brooke will walk you through each step of constructing your own throw quilt top - you'll be surprised how simple it is to create this complex-looking design.

Description: Students will learn how to improvisionally piece an assortment of prints—stripes, dots, tracks, and plaids.
