This class will show many background designs, as well as designs for sashings and unique areas of the quilt where block patterns do not work. 5 pointed stars don't have to be intricately pieced when using the Square in a Square system. Unique cutting and sewing from several Option 7's help achieve multiple points quickly and easily. In this 6-hour class, the focus is on 6 stars. Courthouse steps will not be sewn in class. Two colors are needed for each star. During class, learn the Square in a Square technique that eliminates the triangle hassle normally associated with cutting and sewing of multiple pieced blocks. If you are tired of looking for the most appropriate designs to match your quilt theme, just create your own quilting designs on an as needed basis. Most designs do not require any marking. Learn how to handle both design possibilities so you won't feel challenged by any quilting job. Using a workbook and pre-stamped fabric the student will draw along and then stitch a sampler making a stain glass looking wall quilt of all these great background fillers. Swirls, leaves, loops, stars, waves, ivy, herky jerky, echo, paisley, etc. along with several samples, and hints where and when to use each design. This class is designed for all levels of quilters. Skill Level: Beginner or individuals interested in a longarm If you own a longarm or shortarm quilting machine and need a little help or are dreaming of purchasing of one and do not know where to start, this class is for you. Sue will share her story of how she purchased one machine and now owns three, as well as a full service longarm quilting shop. In this hands-on workshop, students will learn to prepare the quilt for loading using the Quick Zip System™. Sue will discuss squaring the backing fabric, different types of batting and threads and easy tricks to handle quilt tops that just won't lay flat. After loading the frames, Sue will teach her simple tricks to keep the quilt square using the PatternGrid and other tools. Students will learn how to adjust overall patterns to fit any size or shape of quilt. She give tips on keeping spacing even between rows and will demonstrate her technique on finishing of the bottom of the quilt when the pattern doesn't fit. After the students finish quilting the pantograph patterns, she will demonstrate applying binding with the longarm. As time allows, she will also discuss stencil placement tricks, stitch in the ditch, easy free motion design ideas and tools and the invaluable books and techniques that helped her when she was a newbie. Learn how to make beautiful patterns, fill shapes with motifs, cross-hatching, wave fills, auto stipple, creative background fillers. Use those fills inside or around a design, or turn shapes into appliqué. Learn how to draw from scratch or to trace any image. Art and Stitch will work with all major quilt and/or embroidery formats. We will show you that creating artwork for quilting is within reach... even if you think you can’t draw.
