If you own a computerized longarm quilting machine, and want to make a stunning wholecloth, this is the class for you! Learn all steps for successfully completing wholecloths on cotton or silks. The morning will focus on ideal fabrics, threads, preparation, batting, tension control and precise pattern placement. The afternoon will bring information about turning quilts for border completion, border placement, and binding while the quilt is still on the longarm. We'll spend some time on using Creative Studio with commercial patterns, subdividing and creating new combinations for integral wholecloth design. This is not a hands-on machine class but is packed with theory and video presentation showing all steps of completion. You'll receive free electronic patterns for a wholecloth quilt using all of these techniques valuing $75 (provide your controller number to kelly@jukeboxquilts. com). Note: Kelly works on a Statler/Gammill, and will specifically address this process using Creative Studio, the Statler program. General wholecloth construction will be addressed, but if you use another software, Kelly may not be able to address specific questions related to that software.

In this class, I will show you the process and methods I use to design and mark a totally original Wholecloth Quilt. We will discuss how different techniques, thread colors, and fabrics can be used to add design elements to our whole cloth. We will also talk about using fused fabrics and paints under sheer layers, as well as painting a whole cloth. We will be using no stencils, so each student will leave class with a marked, totally original and YOU-nique Innovative Wholecloth, ready for quilting. A lot of people ask me how I come up with the ideas I have used in my whole cloth quilts, and I think you will be surprised by how simple it really is .... And NO, you do NOT have to be an artist.

Skill Level: ALL Class will begin with a discussion of basic wool appliqué techniques and with tips for working with wool. Students will learn to make this teacup filled with three-dimensional wool flowers. The background fabric is Moda's marbled flannel. Some beadwork is included in this project as well as flowers made with felt balls. Fabric for the "wool lace" frame is included in the kit for the class, but is an optional finish. There will be enough fabric in the kit to bind the edges if that is the preferred finish.
