FR01 – Fantastic Fabric Faces $80
Pamela Allen One Day
Here’s a unique way to use those fabrics with large prints in small art quilts. Pamela will demonstrate a fabric collage technique that uses the shapes in large prints, such as those from sarong batiks or floral fantasy fabrics, as components of a portrait face. A curling vine becomes an eye, a circle becomes a chin. Pamela also provides fabrics that have been bubble jet printed with eyes, mouths, etc. to help in the creation. Emphasis in this class will be on the creative process with less fussing about sewing techniques and traditional quilting methods. Skill Level: All.
Supply List: 9,11,12,14,15,21,24. Other Supplies: spray baste and mask (optional), embroidery floss, large hand needles (3 1/2” dollmaking needle is ideal). Fabric: selection of commercial and recycled fabrics all types (silk, velvet, rayon, polyester, etc.), large prints if available. Batting for approx. 20” quilt. Optional but nice: sewing machine if you HATE hand sewing.
FR02 – Two Puzzles to Genius! $75
Linda Carlson One Day
Easy machine piecing methods gets you two quilts in one! This reversible 63”x78” quilt is made with Flying Geese units that combine to create secondary spinning pinwheel design elements. Traditional or contemporary fabrics both produce dazzling results, or you may choose Linda’s fabric kit using her new line, Grammie & Mimi’s Baby Geniuses Grow Up! A short PowerPoint presentation shows how Linda’s fabrics encourage the ability to focus and concentrate thus enhancing intelligence capacity. Skill Level: All.

FR03 – Cotton Theory Quilting $65
Betty Cotton One Day
Quilt first, then assemble using Betty Cotton’s folding procedures. Betty will help you create a reversible table runner with quilted embroidery, decorative stitches and 3-D seams. Perfect for the Spring as well as the Fall. Sewing machines for this class are provided by Pfaff. Note: Same as TH04. Skill Level: All.

FR04 – Backgammon $80
Sharyn Craig One Day
Are you looking for a fun, fast, easy new quilt to make? Then this workshop is for you. Inspired by the common Rail Fence pattern-on-a-skew, the resulting blocks look very much like the backgammon game board. You don’t need to be a game player to enjoy this quilt. You can build it in two colors, or any number that suit your fancy. Skill Level: All.

FR05 – Machine Quilting Sampler $65

Machine quilting is so simple when you use the built-in stitches of your sewing machine. Explore the possibilities while you create a stitch sample to inspire you for all your projects. Sewing machines for this class are provided by Janome. Note: Same as WE03. Skill Level: All.

FR06 – Saving Our Treasures $70
Mary Kerr One Day
This workshop touches on the basics of restoration, conservation and repair of antique quilts with a discussion and trunk show of historical repairs. The hands-on portion will cover basic repairs, restoration techniques, conservation, rescue tips and the recreation of patterns that are damaged beyond repair. Students are encouraged to bring a vintage quilt in need of repair to discuss and begin work on during the workshop. Skill Level: All.

FR07 – Painting Water Fabrics $80
Mickey Lawler One Day
In a relaxed atmosphere of warmth and good humor, students will spend the day painting water: sunny ponds, stormy seas, ocean reflecting sunset, waterfall, etc. with an emphasis on becoming familiar with non-toxic transparent permanent textile paints, mixing, and applying the paints to cotton fabric for use in quilts. Students generally complete about 2-4 yds. of fabric pieces if weather is good and they are able to dry fabric outdoors. The designs produced are a combination of planning and serendipity, and give students a hands-on basis for future exploration in hand-coloring fabric. Skill Level: All

FR08 – Wholecloth Vintage Linen Quilts $75

Learn to create something new out of something old by turning vintage linens into wholecloth quilts. Old tablecloths, dresser scarves, handkerchiefs, pillowcases and lace will become your own unique heirloom quilt. The workshop will begin with information on how to deal with stains and holes, special designing issues and basting and binding techniques. I will have a large collection of my vintage linen quilts with me to inspire you. My large stash of stencils will be available for your use. Skill Level: All

FR09 – Designing Your Own Floral Borders $65
Martha Nordstrand One Day
Learn how to design an unusual border for a quilt or start with the border and design a quilt around it! We will think backwards and in reverse to create perfect borders… Sound complicated?? Not when you take this border class. We will play with templates of basic flower and leaf sections and tailor them to our own choice of style. Borders can be with natural looking floral prints or stylized in an innovative approach. We will learn to make large templates and learn balance and ratios of size and effect. No more boring plain borders for us! We will learn how to incorporate beautifully pieced borders with appliqué. Students may bring a borderless quilt top and design their own border to finish the quilt or start with a border and design the quilt later! Skill Level: All.

FR10 – Floating Tiles $70

This beautiful quilt is pieced with rectangles, then trimmed! Learn how to “float” any design. Big bonus: this class includes tips on handling bias, cutting, sewing, pressing, and matching seams – all needed for successful quilting. Skill Level: All.

Looking for a new hand-piecing project to take with you? This one-patch design is a tessellated pattern, which, when sewn, makes pointed stars. Then use the same template to form a floating background. Tips and tricks for simple construction will be demonstrated. Bright fabric colors work best to create a fun quilt to hang or to use. If you do not wish to hand piece, this project may be made using a sewing machine. Skill Level: All.

Create this small wallhanging all by machine with gentle, curved piecing using my own pattern design. Color placement, design and the basics of making a landscape by machine will be covered in class. Samples of my hand painted sky and water fabrics available for sale. Skill Level: All.

Here’s a fun class that teaches you an easy way to put an extra special look on your appliqué. Hot Ribbon has become THE method for finishing off raw edges from appliqué without sewing. You can also use Hot Ribbon to put in those special effects that will give your project depth and dimension. This 3-hour class will teach you how to look at fabrics to find the pattern that will add realism to your design, different ways to use Hot Ribbon in your quilts and shading techniques with permanent markers to give your design that right tone and hue. FR18 – Get Over Your Fear of Machine Appliqué $35

This is a techniques class for machine appliqué – both raw-edge and satin stitching. You will work on a cute ladybug wallhanging or table topper while mastering the techniques. Pre-order a kit from www.critterpat.com to do some cutting and fusing before class. Skill Level: All.

FR19 – Daiwabo Coin Purse $35
Maria Tamaoka Evening Class
This adorable coin purse is made using a foundation-pieced base on Daiwabo Taupe fabric. It is then embellished with embroidery stitches, buttonhole stitch appliqué and a kurumi button. The finishing touch is a Japanese ball and chain zipper. Most of the coin purse is sewn by hand, minimal sewing machine used. Skill Level: All.
