Welcome to the 17th annual Road to California Quilters' Conference and Showcase at the Ontario Convention Center in Ontario, California. For my family and I it cannot be January without thinking about Road to California.
With the holiday season fresh in our minds and shortly behind us, we finish the preparations that began while also doing our holiday shopping. Most, if not all, of my families' homes still look like Christmas could happen tomorrow.
This time of year always reminds me of where I started years ago. In the early years, Road to California was just a conference for quilters. When I purchased Road from the original owner the conference was held in Anaheim. I moved the conference to the Marriott (Now the Radisson) hotel in 1991. |
Road continued to operate as a conference until 1995. In 1997 the new Ontario Convention Center opened across the street from the Marriott. The General Manager at the time was not happy that a group of Quilters would be moving into his new facility. Little did he know, not only did we outlast him, but we grew to be one of the largest quilting events on the West Coast and the Ontario Convention Center's largest and longest running event. If only he could see the show now...
This year, the staff, my family, and me have been working hard to give you the best Road to California yet. We have a wide gamut of fiber art to display and a variety of new vendors for you to shop. Our Featured Artist is also displaying some new, different, and exciting uses for fiber art.
Lastly, this show would not be what it is today without the help of my family. For those that are new to Road, a good part of the character of this show is drawn from my family involvement. From my three sons to eight of my grandchildren, we strive to give you the best quilt show on the west coast. AND I have 3 1/2 great grandchildren training in the wings.
