Artist statement: This quilt depicts a day in the life of vineyard workers as they harvest grapes. The "Grape Harvest" was created using a variety of machine techniques including: pintucking, Broderie Perse, threadplay, and freehand quilting.

Artist statement: Winter 2007 was a long, snow-burdened winter bereft of sunshine. I sought expression in beautiful curves, innovative quilting, elegant perforations and bright color. When a friend said the design looked Eastern, "Saffron Spring" sprung!

Design basis: Original adaptation from "Quilts of Provence" by Berenson
Artist statement: This quilted work is in the style of 18th Century French Provincial Boutis. Italian batiste is the top fabric and cotton broadcloth is the back fabric. The designs are largely adapted from the traditional French and are hand quilted, then stuffed and corded to create dimension and transparency when hung in the light.

Design basis: Original design
Artist statement: My desire to include shadow work was the catalyst for this quilt. I wanted color to show through the white fabric, causing the beauty of the design to come from within...hence, the title. I included many other techniques: machine embroidery, bobbin work, curved piecing, foundation paper piecing, machine appliqué, intensive machine quilting and metallic thread and cord. I enjoyed the search for just the right fabrics to shade from light to dark within each color. The solid pastel colors with the argyle-type quilting are silk dupioni to really make the quilt shimmer.

Artist statement: Our small group named "Hanging by a Thread" took on the challenge to do self-portraits using as many Kaffe Fassett fabrics as possible. Each person chose a focus color. Five members had never done a portrait quilt and one had never quilted! Members of the group include Penny Abnet, Audrey Prothero, Norine Jones, Ann Zabriskie, Margie Smith, Phyllis Lund, Nanine, Bonnie Keller, Marie Kaiser, and Mary Fran McClure.

Artist statement: The quilt is done with shadow trapunto over a pieced underlay. The center medallion was adapted from an appliqué pattern by Karen Kay Buckley. The center motifs were repeated in the border sections and enhanced with trapunto feather quilting designs.

Design basis: Original design
Artist statement: Lollapalooza is the second in my series of my Ink-Liqué quilting process. After spending many hours designing the quilt, a full size pattern was made. I then transferred the pattern to fabric, quilted it with my hand guided quilting system, and then inked the piece using Sakura gel pens and markers. The piece was then bound and enhanced with a crystal trim.

Artist statement: This is a guild challenge quilt. The theme was "All Fired Up." The inspiration came from a children's book entitled, "My Friend the Piano." Required elements were: red fabric, flying geese, embellishment and something on point, i.e. black squares in the rug. The complete quilt title is "Goodness, Gracious, Great Balls of Fire by the IncrREDible Jerry Lee Lewis."

Artist statement: Forget Me Knot is a feminine ensemble made from 1950's vintage patterns. Several techniques were used in the creation of this ensemble: machine quilting, handmade braided trim, wood-burning tool cut flowers, Preciosa® crystals, hand beading and hand made polymer clay buttons.

Artist statement: This vest is made of silk dupioni, with a wool batt and a hand-dyed lining. The original quilting design was inspired by the work of Diane Gaudynski. The background quilting was done using various pastel colors of 100 weight silk thread. The seams were bound so that the vest may be worn inside out - 2 garments in one!

Artist statement: Machine-quilted jacket is accented with machine embroidery on sleeve, front, neck and raglan bands. Large motifs adorn the back and sleeves. Small embroidery motifs have been combined in software to produce the large designs. Coordinating pants have embroidered side-seam bands.

Artist statement: I was inspired by last year's Featured Artist Cindy Needham and her display of antique linens. My mother had done cutwork on linen and her pieces were handed down to me in 1970. I'm not sure she worked the flowers on this small luncheon cloth, but I enjoyed working on this piece in her memory.

Artist statement: This quilt started out as a study in a few flowers and evolved into some of my favorites for the Holiday Season. Each flower has special meaning because they were some of the plants that my mother loved so much. She always had a red Amaryllis growing on her windowsill during the winter and nursed it to bloom for the Holidays. I added a few more of her favorites as well as a couple of mine! Oriental poppies, cyclamen, red roses, poinsettias, amaryllis, winterberry, magnolias and fir, hellebores, and white roses are the major players as well as two beautiful birds that my mother loved. This is in memory of Laura Gwendolyn Hocutt.

Artist statement: I saw this quilt in a quilt shop and wanted to recreate it. The original had only six blocks. I decided on nine blocks for mine. A couple years into the project left me questioning my decision. But I was happy to finish and liked the number of blocks. Hand appliqué, free motion quilting.

From studying the color wheel, experimenting with trapunto, setting a design on point, accuracy in creating triangles, etc., I loved it all! Artist statement: The wide paisley trim was the starting point for this jacket and the basketweave quilting pattern took me a while to design but I love the texture. Jacket showcases lots of texture and pretty trim. Quilted with Superior Bottom Line top and bobbin, Hobbs Polydown batting.

Artist statement: This quilt celebrates the vibrant changes brought on by the fall season. Lighter appliquéd leaves grace one side of each block while darker leaves are found on the other side to show the variety of effects this burst of fall spreads amongst the trees. The improvised sashing is connected by the green striped megaphone shape announcing this gloriously colorful season.

Artist statement: This quilt was inspired by the beautiful embroidery designs by Jenny Haskins and the pattern "MarJen for Error." I omitted the dresden plates and used a solid block as I prefer a simpler design. The freehand feather background design is fun to do and I think it compliments the elegant embroidered roses.

Artist statement: This design came from a sketch, drawn during a sleepless night, which was reflected eight times to create symmetry. A flat zig-zag stitch is used to allow the fabric color to show through the stitches, and the quilting designs are all original. The title is taken from a favorite song written by Michel Legrand.

Artist statement: The basis for my interpretation is Barbara Olson's pattern "Wild Child." I chose colors and fabrics I don't usually work with. I chose chocolates and tried to play with depth perception in choosing my background so that my flower could swirl into infinity, thus came its name "Chocolate Swirl."

Design basis: Lone Star inspired by "Lone Stars and Beyone" by Jan Krentz
Artist statement: When Grandma Josefine moved to an assisted living facility, she gladly gave me all her damask sheets. After she had passed away in January 2007, I dyed some of those sheets in an 8-step gradation from lemon to turquoise that I pieced into this quilt. I opted for complex yet elegant quilting and used crystals to add the appropriate sparkle to reflect my Grandma's character.
