Oustanding Jacket or Vest
Koos Of Course!
Eve Kovacs

Woodridge , IL

Inspired by a Koos design for Vogue patterns and book Couture and Collage. The pattern was a starting point to create my homage to the koos style. The techniques include appliqué couching, slashing and binding to create a reversible jacket.

First Place -
Innovative Wall Other
Buck A. Roux
Charlotte Freeman

Ridgecrest, CA

This quilt is an original design which uses the techniques of dye painting, fabric manipulation and collage style appliqué. The dimensional hat, saddle and rope add an element of realistic interest to the overall design.

First Place - Innovative Wall Pieced
Color Block 2 Mardi Gras
Brenda Smith

Kingman, AZ

I started this quilt during a workshop taught by Sandi Cummings at Road to California 2002. This quilt will be included in her upcoming book Beyond Tradition.

First Place - Traditional Large Mixed
Tsumani
Gay Joyner

Big Bear Lake, CA

This pattern caught my eye as I like piecing and appliqué work. I used all scraps - there are 2000 one-and-half inch triangles. I love bright colors. This yellow was just my cup of tea.

First Place - Traditional Large appliqué
Rose Ellen
Ellen Mierop

Simi Valley, CA

Mini appliqué blocks and swag border in red, green, gold and blue. Inspired by the red and green appliqué tradition of the 19th century using reproduction fabric by RJR.

First Place - Miniature
A Miniature Rose Garden for Jessie
Martha A Nordstrand

San Diego, CA

This quilt is in memory of Jessie Harrison, who was an artist and a friend. The tiny roses are based on miniature rose varieties. She loved flowers and she loved birds.

First Place - Traditional Wall Pieced
Rainbow Fizz
Mickie Swall

Cranberry Township, PA

Twenty-five different fabrics merge to form an image of transparent woven ribbons. This is the colorful version of my original scrappy pattern Y2K.

First Place - Innovative Wall appliqué
Tropical Simplicity
BJ Titus

Coatesville, PA

I was fascinated with the bird of paradise tropical plant. I purchased an ailing one and was determined to rejuvenate it. I have been rewarded with much foliage but no blossoms. This quilt represents the blossoms my plant has been unable to produce.
